- As they are compatible with Keurig Brewing systems, simply open the section of your Keurig coffee Brewer and drop the pod into place. The foil portion with the name of the coffee on it should be facing upwards.
- Make sure there is water in your brewing system.
- Close the lid to your brewing system. When the lid closes a small puncture will be made in the center of the aluminum seal so that the hot water can be introduced into the pod.
- Push the power button on your brewing device to start the brewing process.
- When the cup of Java is brewed be sure to allow the filter pod time to cool off before you remove it from the brewing system. This will prevent any accidental burns that can be caused by touching the hot pod immediately after the brewing has completed.
- You can throw the pod away in your trash, or if you recycle you can put these into a recycle bin.
These coffee pods do not need to be refrigerated. They will retain good quality for a period of eight to twelve months. If the seal on the pod is broken, discard the pod.
Durability
We found these coffee pods to be deserving of a 8 in this category as well.
- The packaging is sturdy
- The cups hold together properly and do not tend to drip or spill when it is time to dispose of them
- Food-grade aluminum seals are used
- #7 food-grade plastics are used for the outer shell
- Abaca fiber is used as the filtration
Most single-serve K-cup coffee pods are made basically in the same design. Many of the companies use lower-quality materials in their packaging to save money. Those packages tend to be messy, and frustrating to use.
Green Mountain Coffee Roasters Inc. has chosen to use the highest quality materials in their pod creations. These higher quality materials give you strength, and they lock in the freshness and flavor of the ground beans inside them.
The outer portion of the pods is made from #7 plastic. This is a blend of materials and plastics that creates a lightweight product.
The filter of the K cup pods is made from abaca fiber. This is the same fiber that is used in the creation of teabags. During the production process, the abaca fiber filter fuses to the inside of the #7 plastic pod.
The lids of the pods are crafted from an aluminum foil that is designated as bei8ng food-grade. During the fabrication of the pods, the aluminum material has adhered to the cup so it protects the coffee until it is punctured when placed in the brewer system.
Value for Money
We wish we could give these K-cups higher than a 8 for their value.
- The cost of these K-cups is far less than most leading brands
- The quality of the coffee created using these cups is higher than you would expect out of a low-price item
This is an excellent coffee choice for companies or large gatherings like churches, committees, and clubs.
You do NOT have to spend a lot of money to get good coffee.
The oxygen and light are naturally blocked inside the pod so the ground coffee beans inside the container will retain a fresh aroma, flavor, and taste for a longer time.
The clever packaging of the K-cups preserves the freshness of the coffee longer than a typical container of ground coffee does. Ground coffee begins to go stale, and loses some of its flavors the moment it is ground.
The oxygen in a K-cup is replaced with nitrogen during the vacuum sealing process of production. Oxidization is then prevented so the current freshness of the ground beans is preserved.
Your k-cup does not have an expiration date. There is a date stamped on the side of the pod. That date is the “best if used by” date. You will get the freshest taste by using the pod before that date.
Final Thoughts
If you like a delicious cup of coffee and do not want to have to pay a small fortune to get a quality cup of “Joe” then you should give the Kirkland K-Cups a try.
Your taste buds and your pocketbook will both be happy that you did.
